Stephen Krasner Announces Candidacy for Town Supervisor — Town of Newburgh, New York

TOWN OF NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Stephen Krasner has announced his candidacy for Town Supervisor, launching a campaign grounded in a simple but powerful belief: that local government works best when it is transparent, disciplined, and guided by a genuine respect for the people it serves.

Krasner, a longtime Town of Newburgh resident, senior legal and operations professional, investigative writer, and former Peace Corps volunteer, enters the race pledging to restore trust in Town Hall and bring a new standard of ethical, accountable leadership to the community he calls home.

“This is a moment when showing up locally truly matters,” Krasner said. “People want a town government that listens, plans responsibly, and treats residents with fairness and common sense. I’m running to ensure Newburgh has leadership that is competent, transparent, and worthy of the public’s trust.”

A father raising his family in the Town of Newburgh, Krasner said his decision to run is deeply personal. He emphasized that local government decisions — from taxes and infrastructure to water quality and public safety — shape everyday life for working families, seniors, and young people alike.

“For me, this is about the kind of example we set for the next generation,” he said. “When institutions feel unresponsive, we don’t walk away — we step forward and work to improve them.”

Krasner brings more than two decades of experience managing complex operations in high‑stakes legal environments, where oversight, budgeting, compliance, and accountability are essential. His professional career has included supervising teams, coordinating large projects, managing vendors and resources, and ensuring that organizations meet the highest ethical standards — experience that closely mirrors the responsibilities of a Town Supervisor.

He holds a Master of Science in Nonprofit Management from The New School’s Milano School of Management and Urban Policy and a Bachelor’s degree in Politics & Government and History, training that focused on public finance, governance, and effective organizational leadership.

Krasner is no stranger to the challenges facing the Town of Newburgh. Having previously run for Supervisor and spent years analyzing town budgets, audits, and policies, he has long advocated for stronger fiscal controls, open government practices, and responsible planning that protects both taxpayers and quality of life.

Throughout his public life, Krasner has emphasized that leadership requires both attention to detail and a willingness to listen. His investigative writing and community advocacy have centered on accountability, transparency, and ensuring that government decisions are clearly explained and openly debated.

If elected, Krasner said his focus will be on three core priorities: restoring transparency and public confidence, strengthening fiscal responsibility, and planning proactively for the town’s future growth and infrastructure needs.

“Residents deserve to know how decisions are made, where their money is going, and that their voices matter,” he said. “We can build a town government that is open, responsible, and forward‑looking — and that work starts on day one.”

Krasner also highlighted his commitment to inclusive leadership, noting that effective local government must serve every neighborhood fairly and ensure that all residents feel heard and respected.

“My campaign is about bringing people together around the shared goal of good government,” he said. “Newburgh’s strength has always been its people, and I believe we can move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and pride.”

Krasner is seeking the Democratic and Working Families Party endorsements and is building a grassroots campaign powered by community engagement, volunteer energy, and a message centered on integrity and results.

“As Town Supervisor, I will lead with transparency, fiscal discipline, and a deep respect for the responsibility entrusted to public officials,” he said. “Together, we can make sure the Town of Newburgh remains a place where families can thrive and where government truly works for the people.”
